Anna-Marie Johnson is Waiting For Your Love

World-class UK Soul songstress Anna-Marie Johnson releases the debut Solo single from her forthcoming EP ‘Waiting For Your Love’, this autumn.

This first single sees Anna-Marie deliver a beautiful and mesmerising soulful vocal coupled with emotive lyrics. This is superbly complimented by Ziggy Funk’s cool melodic beat and jazz piano. Anna-Marie writes in such an evocative way and effortlessly draws listeners into her world view.

Speaking about the process of creating her EP, Anna-Marie said: 

“To get my solo music out there is fulfilling a lifelong ambition. I have been doing so many other people’s projects that it feels amazing to be finally focussing on and taking my own music forward. My influences range from Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, Cleo Soul among many others. I looked for the right collaborator for a long time and I’m so delighted that I managed to bring Ziggy Funk on board as producer (Rhemi, Zaimie, Natasha Watts) as his super cool style is exactly what I wanted for the EP and we work so amazingly together.”

“We wrote the title track ‘Waiting For Your Love’ in our first session, having never met before and had the whole thing down in a couple of hours. The song draws on my own personal experience, it is about loss, longing, unconditional love, hope, resilience, the perseverance of the human spirit and the fact that love never dies – pretty deep stuff! I think it shows the instant connection between Ziggy and I, which allowed us to explore such deep emotions together. We are very excited to be getting back in the studio very soon to develop new material.”

Anna-Marie has worked for many years in the music industry as a highly technical lead vocalist, session vocalist, songwriter and vocal coach. She is an extremely dynamic performer and can produce sweet soulful tones as well as powerhouse vocals. She has been involved with many successful projects and bands, including Fierce and the Drizabone Soul Family, with whom she headlined at Ronnie Scotts, Jazz Café Camden and supported Chic and Nile Rodgers at the Indigo 02. She has recorded and co-written with many successful producers including Scott Whitman (Dane Bowers – Another Lover), Jerry Barnes (Chic) & Ted Nilsson, she also penned the beautiful ballad But You on Drizabone Soul Family’s Recipe of Life album (2012).

Most recently Anna-Marie has been writing and recording predominantly in the Soulful House scene with great success, collecting a string of top 10 hits in collaboration with some heavy weight producers. Including The Journey Men/Marc Cotterill and Ndinga Gaba (Wanna Be Down), Seb Junior/Matt D & Claudio Deeper (Lifting Me Higher), Pat Bedeau (Missing You & My Life), Rhemi (Live Life Free & Transform). Anna-Marie’s vocal feature with The Journey Men, a cover of the 90’s Brandy Track ‘Wanna Be Down’ (Raising Records) was a Traxsource No1 hit in April this year. The track stayed at the top spot for six weeks and in the top 100 for many more months.
